Creating & Sharing Books

Dear Cailynne,

During our inquiry into storytelling, you were very interested in creating books. Some books told your own stories and some books were retellings of other stories. This is a book you created with Libby about The Gingerbread Man. Here you are reading the first page of the book:

When I asked you about this work, you said:

"I was writing words and drawing. I love drawing and writing. I like reading my books."

Writing: Before & After

Dear Cailynne,

You have made a lot of progress in writing this year. Here is a sample of your work from September:

This piece shows that you could record many beginning and ending sounds in single words. You also could record some middle sounds using your phonetic knowledge.  Here is a piece of your writing from May:

This pieces shows that you can now accurately record beginning, middle, and ending sounds. You can also write some words that we see a lot (high frequency words) correctly. You include spaces between most of your words.

Congratulations on your progress Cailynne! You have worked hard on your writing.

Working on Reading

Dear Cailynne

Since the beginning of Kindergarten 1 you have shown an interest in reading. This semester you have been working on developing your skills and have followed your interest in taking books home. You created a reading log to keep track of which books you were borrowing. Your enthusiasm for reading has continued and you are now able to sound out many words and also immediately recognize some words that we see quite often.
